2 Person Backpacking Tent – Big Agnes Copper Spur HV UL2 (Mtn Glow) Review

Big Agnes Copper Spur UL2 Mtn Glow Backpacking TentWe have been using the Big Agnes Copper Spur 2 person backpacking tent on all our backpacks so far this year.  The most recent trip was undertaking the Thorsbourne Trail on Hinchinbrook Island, you can checkout our trip report here.

We had a hard choice in deciding which backpacking tent to go for as we were faced with so much choice and competition.  After much research and reading reviews much like this one, we decided on the Big Agnes Copper Spur HV UL2 and on the Mountain Glow edition which adds a strip of LED lights built into the roof of the inner tent.  What made us choose this tent?  Well it came down to weight, pack size, quality, LED built in lights and of course the price.  There is always a sweet spot where you try to get the most lightweight and durable backpacking tent for the right price, go lighter and you will likely pay even more and in some cases also loose durability.  This tent ticked all our boxes and we got a great deal at our affiliate Wild Earth.  You can checkout the tent on their website here.  I also have a discount code with Wild Earth which is ‘subscribe5’ to get 5% off which you can enter at the checkout.

I have put together a video review you can checkout below…

We have now used this tent on a number of backpacking adventures in a good mix of weather.  One of the trips gave us 48 hours solid of rain where we had this tent pitched for that time, it was pretty heavy rain in Tasmania and we had no leaks at all.  We use the tent with the footprint which is a groundsheet designed to go underneath the tent, its very lightweight and we would certainly recommend using it.  You get extra protection and insulation under the main groundsheet of the tent, and have the added advantage of using the footprint and the fly as a quick erect emergency shelter, which is a great feature.  For a wet setup you can also use the footprint to erect the fly and then clip in the inner rather than the standard setup.

This particular tent is called the HV model which is really just saying you have higher sidewalls and more space inside.  The space inside allows you to setup and comfortably get changed etc. which is certainly something worth considering over other tents.
