Exmouth: Sunset Whale Tour with Ocean Eco Adventures
After having 3 lovely nights in Cape Range exploring the National Park we headed back to Exmouth so we could jump onboard Ocean Eco Adventures stunning Latitude 22, for a late afternoon of whale watching and a Western Australian sunset. 
We were picked up right outside our campsite (RAC Exmouth Cape Holiday Park) by bus and driven to the marina. Here we sat in the lounge area on the lower deck and had our safety briefing. The conditions were as perfect as we could have wished for, as the south easterly winds which were forecast held off. The ocean was like a sheet of glass as we cruised out the marina into the gulf and it wasn’t long before we saw our first whales coming into view from our vantage point on the top deck of the boat.
As we got closer due to the stillness of the afternoon, we could hear the whale song of a mother and its calf. These Humpback Whales were seeking shelter in the bay as they make the long journey back down to Antartica, having had their babies in the warm waters of the Kimberly. We saw several majestic and playful Mothers with their young during our tour. Some of them were also escorted by another whale, which is normally a male, but can be a non-breading female. It was fantastic to get all this information from the on-board Marine Biologist Brook, who has been with the company now for three seasons. She was very knowledgable and passionate about these beautiful creatures which are heavier than the boat we were aboard and it wasn’t a small vessel!
We had beautiful food served to us through the trip starting with canapes and warm Turkish bread, crudités & dips. Next came the cheese and meat platters before finishing with Exmouth prawns fresh off the boat. We didn’t need anything else that evening to eat, we were stuffed full of yummy food. It was BYO alcohol and so we carried on a bottle of bubbles. Tea, coffee and soft drinks were also available from the kitchen area. For the final part of the trip we headed further out into deeper waters as the wind started to pick up slightly. We spotted dolphins and picked up some very informative information about the males dolphins from our skipper. We were then treated to two calfs playing together in the waves, who swam right past our boat. While onboard we also had a peek in the wheel house. 
It was such a magical trip. We would recommend this tour to anyone that comes to Exmouth. We would have loved to have also swum with these enormous creatures and Ocean Eco adventures offer this package…maybe next time. As we made our way back to shore we had a glorious sunset which rounded off a perfect day. The boat was incredible, the crew were fantastic and the whales certainly came out in force to entertain us.
