Melbourne Top 10

- Wonder the laneways in the CBD and enjoy coffee and lunch in one of the many cafes and restaurants. Pick up the leaflet in the tourist info which has a map and suggested route or download it here.
Then hire a blue bike and cycle along the Yarra River and visit the Botanic Gardens. [But remember you cannot ride through the gardens]
- Have a long weekend in the Grampians [Check out our blog on the iconic walks in this region]
- Have lunch or dinner at Heston’s in the Crown Towers, an amazing indulgent treat or one of the many other amazing restaurants. I love Ginger Boy too and the array of rooftop bars especially the Super Club [Book well in advance for Dinner by Heston] Then watch the famous fireballs display (Gas Brigades) which occurs on the hour every hour until midnight on the banks of the Yarra. Starting at 8pm on weekends and 9pm on weekdays.
- Shopping in the CBD or Chapel Street Then go to the edge at the Eureka Skydeck 88
- Day trip to The Morning Peninsular, but avoid it during peak times when the weather is hot and half of Melbourne has had the same idea. We loved the shops and cafes in Sorrento
Mornington Beach
- Catch the tram or drive to St Kilda and walk along the waterfront and pier
St Kilda
- Wine tasting in the Yarra Valley and exploring the Yarra Ranges. Or why not do the 40km rail trail from Lilydale to Warburton? Finish the ride at the Cog cafe and have lunch at the The Carriage Cafe The public bus provides space for 2 bikes underneath the hold so you only need to ride one way. [No need to book, but have your front wheel off ready to store it underneath. Find the timetable here or on the Cog Cafe website there are details of a private transport company]
- A day trip to visit the little penguins on Philip Island or a little further afield head to Wilsons Promontory for a seaside break with amazing short or longer walks.
Wilsons Promontory
- The Great Ocean Road [Check out our blog on doing it with a forrest twist]
- Head for a Spa weekend to Daylesford and walk in the Macedon Ranges
