On a Mission in Mission Beach

Mission beach is a perfect place to base yourself for a while, to enjoy everything this region has to offer.  From sky diving and white water rafting to gentle walks on the beach and a visit to Dunk Island.

Where to stay at Mission Beach

There are a few different places to camp : South Mission Beach, Wongaling Beach, Mission Beach and also Bingil Bay has safari tents.

We had spoken to a few people who all said South Mission was lovely and so decided to stay at the Big 4 Beachcomber Coconut Holiday Park. However I would have been happy staying anywhere and there is a council site in Mission Beach right on the front which offers cheaper camping. During the busy periods this site is hard to get into and was full during our stay. The Big 4 does have lots of sightings of Cassowarys but when we were there we didn’t spot one, but we did see some wild boar checking out the campers. They also have cool little multi-coloured beach huts right on the waterfront.

Hikes at Mission Beach

  • Clump Mountain National Park, Bicton hill is a nice 4km circuit. The paths are well formed to the top for views over the bay and the incline steady and gradual. Treat yourself to a coffee at the super cool and relaxed Bingle Bay Cafe.img_1677-1
  • Dunk Island: checkout our trip report here on the island circuit in the Family Island National park with Mission Beach Water Taxis
  • South Mission Beach walk to Wongaling bay along side Sandy beaches at low tide. There is a nice but basic coffee shop at the campsite.

Where to eat in Mission Beach

There are so many options, we had a lunch special at one of the outdoor cafes which was excellent and coffee at the Shack which is a great little place.

More time

  • Walk to Tam O’shanter point
  • Kayaking on Hull river
  • Rapid thunder white water rafting
  • Rainforest Walk
  • Musgravea bike trail

…… the list goes on
