Sea to Summit Escapist 15D Tarp shelter Review

Escapist 15D Tarp-Sea to summit

We have been really impressed with the other Sea to Summit backpacking equipment we have been using over the last year. So when it came to purchasing a tarp for our 18-day Larapinta trek, the Sea to Summit Escapist was on the research list and it ultimately came out top.

We wanted something which was lightweight, durable and that would be a great addition to our small backpacking tent (Big Agnes Copper Spur). IMG_4610Primarily for this trip it was to act as a sun shelter, but we were also thinking about how it would stand up in heavy rain too for future trips. The Medium Escapist is 2 x 2.6m and only weighs 270g and it fitted nicely down the side of my Backpacking Rucsack as it’s so soft. We used our hiking poles and the eight Hypalon tie-out points to create lots of interesting set-ups. There are lots of different configurations on the outside of the bag to help you too, which we liked.

We were really grateful for it, as in September on the Larapinta Trail we had some hotter than average days hiking,  with campsites providing little shade as we arrived into them at lunch time. The tarp is made from a waterproof 15D Sil/PU coated Ultra-Sil Nano fabric. We will update this blog when we test the waterproof aspects as it will be put through its paces on a few backpacking trips in the U.K.
